Whatever You Believe

May 31, 2026    Jason Boyer

In this opening sermon of a series through the book of Colossians, Pastor Jason introduces the theme of “whatever you do” from Colossians 3:17, challenging believers to move away from a cafeteria-style approach to faith where they pick and choose what is comfortable. The core idea is that everything in life is spiritual, and every moment is an opportunity to act in the name of Jesus and give thanks to God. Paul’s letter to the Colossians was written to correct false teaching that added requirements on top of Jesus, and before correcting the church, Paul affirms their faith, love, and hope rooted in eternity.

The sermon focuses on four foundational beliefs about Jesus drawn from Colossians chapter one. First, Jesus created everything, so we should surrender everything to Him. Second, Jesus rescued us from darkness, so we can fully rely on Him rather than straining in our own strength. Third, Jesus defines us, presenting us without blemish before God, so we can live secure in that identity rather than being driven by guilt, shame, or performance. Fourth, Jesus holds all things together, so we must hold tight to Him and guard against the slow drift away from the gospel. He challenges each person to identify one area of life where Jesus is treated more like decoration than foundation, and to let their beliefs reshape their actions.
