Yes to Solitude
Jul 5, 2026 • Rick Laine
The sermon focuses on Mark 1:29-39, where Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law and then ministers to a crowd of sick and demon possessed people. After an exhausting stretch of ministry, Jesus rises early the next morning and retreats to a solitary place to pray. He uses this moment to highlight that Jesus modeled the spiritual discipline of solitude, not as a way to escape responsibility, but as a way to rest, reconnect with the Father, and receive direction. He also draws an important distinction between healthy solitude and unhealthy isolation, reminding the group that solitude is a temporary discipline meant to recharge us for community, not a permanent withdrawal from it.
